Philippine Business Needs Smarter Blogging

Hey, Ben, I know you're one of the few Philippine COOs who get this whole blogging thing, so you'd understand the need to encourage smarter employee blogging in Level Up. Look at this one bash your company, leak your campaigns, publish your talent fees, and backbite your consumer evangelists.

On the other hand, look at this gaming guru blogger. He works for one of your competitors.

Here's a whitepaper on employee blogging that'll help.

Update, 27 March 2006: After reading this post, the Level Up employee in question has acknowledged ownership of the blog cited and protected the entries cited. For your convenience, here are the screenshots of those entries.

oh btw.. it's Level Up! not Level Up Games. =) *cheers*

Ben, Hazel's blog underlines the need to raise up smarter employee bloggers through a progressive blogging policy that encourages employee evangelism. You don't want your competitors having all the gaming guru bloggers, do you?

Anonymous said...

oh wow. listen to the suck-up. are you hoping to get into LU because its competition kicked you out? hmn? awwww... poorwiddleinfantasswipe wants to be a grownup. ha! ha! well, if your behavior is going to be like this forever you'll never be one!

and fyi, what does blogging have to do with being a good employee? do you even KNOW hazel's contributions to the company that you feel like you know EVERYTHING about her to criticize her through her lj? do you have the SLIGHTEST IDEA? you know, even the teenest tiniest bit?

didn't think so.

this entry is just a bunch of sore loser's bullshit.

Mike Abundo said...

You seem confused, "Anonymous". As clearly shown in my LinkedIn profile, one company I managed did consulting for one of Level Up's competitors. Also as clearly shown in my LinkedIn profile, I have never been a direct employee of any direct competitor of Level Up.

Anyway, you're missing the point, "Anonymous". Philippine companies need to produce smarter employee bloggers. Hazel is just a perfect example of the severity of that need.

What does blogging have to do with being a good employee? Edelman answered that question last year.

Anonymous said...

You don't even know what this employee has been thru with the company and it's her right to write about her feelings in HER JOURNAL, be it negative or positive. I acknowlegde that this is your blog and similarly, you also have the right to post whatever you want, but please execise common courtesy when writing about other people. What you're doing is already libel.

If you want people to start respecting you for who you are, you'd better start respecting other people too, because at the rate you're going, you're just digging your own grave, reputation-wise.

Anonymous said...

ITS HER PERSONAL BLOG. If it wasnt then she should have named it under the level up domain. So everything she writes would be her own thoughts and opinions. Thats what blogging is all about right?

She puts down in writing her thoughts. You, being a so called "VP" should also know that not all employees can be pleased with a company. Every CEO would know that too.

So fuck off attention whore.

On the other hand you should put down this site too. Its a fucking waste of space.

And at least she doesnt put up her name in Wikipedia in the name of attention whoring.

FUCK OFF. We dont need people like you in the community. Or maybe all this attention whoring is compensating for something. *wink wink*

Anonymous said...

As a VP of watevah company, would you think your people will respect you if they see your perverted-like pic?

It really shows what kind of person you are, DIRTY OLD MAN. :)

Anonymous said...

if your employees (if you're really a VP as you claim) see the picture in your blog then what do you think? Would they still have respect for you?

I could only imagine them wincing in pain and agony. Gah. May God save your soul.

How do people find other people's journals??? (and by other people I mean people you dont evcen know!) BY TYPING THEIR NAME IN GOOGLE. Good Lord, do sane people do this?

And please explain the backbiting on the consumer evengelists part. Pardon me, how does the screencap entry reflect such? My brain must have dropped to your level, forgive me. Please do explain oh high and mighty one. Oh in case you dont know, that was a sacrastic remark. Im sure you would not know cause you're an idiot who thinks he is a God. PUH-LEEEZE. Got to get my barf barg.

Oh wow. Sure the owner of that LJ is divulging important customer data. But then again, if you'll notice most of the customers - people who play Level Up! games, people who buy their merchandise and support their events - ASKED FOR THE INFORMATION.

Besides, speak for yourself loser boy. I mean really, look at your "OH-SOOOOOOOOO-RESPECTABLE" picture - I know people in high (and I MEAN HIIIIIIIIIIGH) places boy, and they said they'd NEVER believe you were a vice president of an IT company with the way you present yourself having a harem like that. At least with Hazel, we all know she's an employee; she admits to being one and doesn't use attention- (and penis-) grabbing techniques in presenting herself as such.

And yes, you are perfectly eligible for libel. That's still a heavier case in the courts compared to intellectual property rights, since it recognizes ALL forms of media and ALL kinds of witnesses.

I actually feel sorry for you know. If I didn't know any better your real occupation isn't being a vice president of an information technology company, but just collecting enemies.

Anonymous said...

How's the last screenshot about backbiting the company? She didn't say anything about the company at all...

Anyway, who cares? It's her journal, she has the right to write anything, like you and all your drivel written in your journal.

I don't know how some of his trolls will interpret it, I know they will try to deviate from the point of my post by resolving to character attacks and misdirection. I guess I just wanted to point out my oppinion about this one, so here goes nothing...

"Anyway, who cares? It's her journal, she has the right to write anything, like you and all your drivel written in your journal. "

I agree... he has that right, as much as anyone else does. Since this is his personal blog too, he can write all his oppinions or whatever he wishes here, and if that's his oppinion we can't do anything about it, same goes to all.

"And yes, you are perfectly eligible for libel. That's still a heavier case in the courts compared to intellectual property rights, since it recognizes ALL forms of media and ALL kinds of witnesses
"

Just to answer this one, I guess, Mike will not point it out without proper knowledge of Philippine internet laws. As for the "libel" part, I think the best you can charge him with is defamation of honor. This is a self published media and publicly accessible, it is not defined as a social publishing profiting network/corporation. As for me, it up for the lawyers prove that and not me. :P

well... I guess at least he has the guts to actually use his own blog for this one, and actually be identified for what he says, he actually takes responsibility to anything he might say, the least I could say to those who commented "anonymously" or those who are using their alternate accounts just to post here and doesn't want to be identified... I guess, if you should believe and have confidence in what you say, you are going to fearlessly post it here and let yourself be pin pointedly identified.

If he is what you consider "attention whore" for posting this, then you are satisfying his craving by posting your replies here, specially the trolls who just post character attacks, not to mention some of his readers might find those much lower and entertainingly moronic since it doesn't go in line with the topic on hand. I guess, the best anyone to can do is just post this in your own blogs, with your own oppinions there, instead of here, since you are increasing his page view and search engine ranking by doing it. *swear drop*

As for the impact of this post to Hazel's career. I wish her the best of luck, and I sincerely do hope that the post will not be taken as a serious HR concern. In companies who acknowledge the existance of their employees blogs, there are employees who were given sactions for writing things about the company or any co-worker in public view. So I guess, it would be safer/best, if anyone who would post anything that will be viewed as a concern about their current company or any other co-employees, in friends view, if one should wish to avoid the impact of any HR concern it might inflict by putting it in plain public view.

There... I have said my piece, though grammatically incorrect and spelling challenged. I wish all the best.

Mike Abundo said...

Well said, Cheryl. Philippine businesses (especially online businesses with community-driven markets like gaming) should encourage smarter employee blogging for corporate evangelism, constructive critique, community-building, and knowledge management.

That's why I cite JC Cuneta as a good example of a thriving employee blogger, and offer a blogging policy formulation resource.

distant_sparks said...

Aaah, but a comment is only on-topic if it suits you. For shame, little boy.

Anonymous said...

In case you didn't know, JC Cuneta has his share of irreposnsible blogging when he indirectly attacks Level Up! when he was already working for Mobius by posting information on "resigned" GMs and about the "corruption" in the company and that those people couldn't take it, which was totally not the case. Posting rumors as facts is bad investigative journalism in his part.

Yes, JC Cuneta may be the epitome of proper employee blogging now but if you're going to post somebody as an example, please do a proper background check before setting them on a pedestal.

@ Mike: Since we are delving into Philippine companies needed smarter bloggers, then I totally agree with your topic. Unfortunately, if we really delve in your post, then you should not just focus on that girl blogger alone -- or the gaming company for that matter. Since you're an IT person, you should have focused your post in IT companies. Oh wait, you're just working in a IT portal in the Philippines, not really an IT company really -- sorry, my bad.

You know, you should have at least included yourself, since based on what you have been posting in your blog, you are NOT an epitome of what a "good employee" blogger really is. Attacking other people's blog to kiss someone's arse, putting down other people just to suit your needs, using other people's fames just because you just talked to them one or two times -- and the list can just go on and on.

Actually, no one has a right to tackle this topic -- unless of course you're a blogger who doesn't have any falws. And since you are just trying to kiss someone else's arse and add the fact that you are a hypocrite, among other things (like asshole and idiot), you're just trying to get people to visit you "poor excuse of a blog" and brag at other people the traffic that you have.

And distant_sparks is right about you being sued for libel. If you don't know what libel means, look it up in Dictionary.com. These FALSE accusations that you are presenting in the public (internet is public, don't you know that?) can be grounds to put you behind bars, although since you are somewhat a rich asshole with a whore, I guess you can bail out.

@ all the anonymous people: It's much better to post here with a blog or email to link you. All of you know that anonymous posts are usually viewed as trolls, don't you? Stand up your ground and post so as people know who you are.

@ distant_sparks: If I were you, do what you have to do. Less talk more action. Talk to lawyers, get evidence and all she-bang.

@ Cheryl: It would be so unfair if I leave you out right?

I guess I just wanted to point out my oppinion about this one, so here goes nothing...
- When did you start trying to defend this person? AS far as my Filipino friends are concern, you're just using him to benefit yourself like he's using you. When did you become "friends" again?

I agree... he has that right, as much as anyone else does. Since this is his personal blog too, he can write all his oppinions or whatever he wishes here, and if that's his oppinion we can't do anything about it, same goes to all.
- Actually, what he posted isn't an opinion but trying to put someone down with false accusations -- with links and screenshots of someone elese's blog. If he DID try to post an opinion, he should not have posted FALSE evidence that can contitutes to libel.

For example -- if I posted a post including you and saying you're a whore and presented it in public with images of you trying to give someone a blow job, then can you still count that as an opinion? You tell me.

- Since I'm a lawyer, my opnion about the law counts right? YES, this can be ground on libel. And LIBEL is THE SAME as defamataion of honor as you put it. Research on that first before you post something legal once again.

- See the bold statement. Unfortunately, no, he doesn't take the responsibility on anything he posts since I know for a fact that some of my comments are deleted. I don't know about other people's comments, but I do have experienced this with this blog. And yes, I dare MIKE post something that would defend his post -- without any links of course. And try not to be an ASSHOLE.

- I agree. Humour me though, are you an attention whore as well? Just curious, you don't have to answer that.

- Can you cite a company that acknowledge the existence of their employee's blogs?

And as far as I'm concerned, the posts on Hazel's (that's the girl right?) blog that were linked in Mike's blog are no way confidential, not unless they have been specifically told that the employees should not be posted in public until the commercial / shoot (whatever it was called) is shown by the company beforehand. It was nowhere near what Mike posted as bashing Hazel's company, leaking their campaigns, publish the talent fees and backbite the consumer's evangelist.

There... I have said my piece, though grammatically incorrect and spelling challenged. I wish all the best.
- Thank you for your post, though next time, do a little research before you post something.

Really, you know some English lawyers? With perfect grammar? With no mistake whatsoever? Kindly name some and maybe one of them is a colleague of mine. If not, I would gladly meet them and congratulate them on having a perfect grammar, according to you that is... My apologies to my bad grammar, stress can do that sometimes.

Thanks for pointing it to me that though -- unfortnately, you're SKIPPING the ISSUE again and resort to CHARACTER ATTACKS; which you love to do by the way along with occasional breaking of laws and scamming other people for their money.

I also thank you, for proving to us that you don't really solve issues but only run away from it. A coward perhaps? Based on what you usually do, I would definitely that you're indeed a coward.

Oh, I give you my gratitude for bragging me at other people. Though, I believe they need evidence that I'm really a troll. I might be someone you're close to in the past or the present -- may it be you're whore, girlfriend, or whatever you call them -- or I may be neither.

And I say this in my native dialect:
"Yawa ka, paghulat lang, mamatay sad ka
... bason ugma ka mamatay"

umm... thank you for trying to pretend to be a lawyer in "ENGLAND." No matter what you say, your bad grammar is a dead giveaway, along with your inability to diffentiate libel from defamation of honor... if you really are a lawyer, prove it by posting your license number here, I DARE YOU.-_-; If you really are... you wouldn't have any problems doing that.

as for the companies you were asking for, I know you read the previous comments, I'll just suppose you missed reading this link

Just so we're clear on the legal aspect of libel:

Under our Revised Penal Code, Title XIII: Crimes Against Honor, Chapter One: Libel, Section One: Libel, Art. 353. Definition of libel. - A libel is a public and malicious imputation of a crime, or of a vice or defect, real or imaginary, or any act, omission, condition, status, or circumstance tending to cause the dishonor, discredit, or contempt of a natural or juridical person, or to blacken the memory of one who is dead.

Libel and slander both involve defamation of honor, they only differ in the manner of execution - libel is made through publication (any website open to public viewing is considered publication), while slander is oral defamation (Art. 358).

On the issue of grammar and spelling, speaking from personal experience, just because a certain person is a native of an English-speaking country doesn't mean that he/she will naturally have perfect grammar and spelling. I have to admit though that they certainly do have an edge in improving their grammar and spelling considering that English is their mother tongue. ^_^

@ Cheryl

Au contraire, defamation (of honor) is a general term for the act of libel and slander. Libel is a malicious defamation (of honor) using written media / communication in public, while slander is malicious defamation (of honor) using verbal communication. But in the world of law, defamation (of honor), slander and libel are commonly used as one.

Libel / slander / defamation of honor (as you call it) tends to impeach the honesty, integrity, virtue or reputation, thereby exposing him to public hatred, contempt, ridicule or obloquy; or to cause him to be avoided or shunned or to injure him in his office, business or occupation.

If you want to know more about libel / slander / defamation (of honor), see Article 353 of the Revised Penal Code of the Philippines.

You know, it’s funny that you talk to me after you commented in this blog about ignoring someone like me (a troll in your words, I presume?) – since you believe that I can only attack someone else’s character and not sticking with the issue. Have you ever tried preaching that same lecture to the person who owns this blog?

And about my grammar in that comment – I didn’t know that being a lawyer means that you have perfect grammar all the time; it’s like saying since we are not perfect, we are not human beings. Thanks for the heads up, might as well brushed up with your grammar as well.

As for posting my license number, I’m afraid I don’t post such things via the Internet – especially to other people I don’t trust that are well capable of impersonating someone. Due to my principles, I only give out my license number to my client and my colleague in the firm. You are neither my client nor my colleague. I also don’t know if you have principles with you, since I don’t know you personally.

@ Sonia

I compliment you on your knowledge of law. Are you a lawyer yourself? If not, you should become one.

As for this post, this would be my final say about this matter, so I bid you adieu.

Welcome to the transparent generation.

Anonymous said...

Cheryl. You are one of the last people to criticize someone regarding English grammar skills. After all, I have been recently to the blog you have kindly posted a link to here, and you are no spelling bee champion either.

Oooh, and reading back on your livejournal, I noticed that you have also been guilty of character defamation against someone that I personally know ... Ernie, I believe his name is? I suppose it's okay to say that character defamation is wrong as long as YOU'RE not the one doing it, right? If YOU'RE the one doing it, then I suppose it's alright. Ah, the different means to call the kettle black.

Perhaps people post anonymously here because they do not wish to be associated to this cybersquatter's blog in any way; but, just as often-nameless witnesses to train accidents will often attempt to help its victims, so do these "anonymous" people attempt to help him in their own small way by telling him before anyone else that he is an idiot. It's a little embarrassing to see anyone, even if they're universally hated, go and make a fool of themselves time and time again.

Bravo, Mike. I agree with your views regarding the "transparent generation". This does explain the tripe you frequently post here as inherent in your nature. But then again, you usually reply to valid posts by providing links that have nothing to do with the topic on hand, with the sole intention of pretending to be intelligent and well-read.

I do agree, though. Perhaps it is high time that we must make a stand and fight against those Filipinos who commit highly unethical crimes despite the lack of laws regarding the Internet in the country. Let's start with the people WHO STEAL OTHER PEOPLE'S ORGANIZATION NAMES AND MARKET THEM AS THEIR OWN, shall we? Or how about people who BUY DOMAIN NAMES AND MISDIRECT THEM TO AN ENTIRELY DIFFERENT SITE IN THE HOPES OF ATTRACTING MORE MEMBERS? Perhaps we should add people who display their horrifying pectoral muscles on their blogs as well; I believe this has on some occasions been known to induce blindness.

If you believe that there is a need for Philippine companies to encourage smart bloggers, then please encourage your psuedo-company to do the same thing for you. They're not doing a very good job.

Nevermind the fact that a comment from another member stated that Mike should post a page about Alodia in Asian Sirens.com
