New Numa - The Return of Gary Brolsma!

Marketers, watch carefully. This is an acid test of whether an organic meme can be followed up with an authentic performance.

Only Gary Brolsma himself could perform a New Numa, by the same guy who wrote Dragostea din Tei. Let's see if he'll succeed where Alyssa Alano failed. Note that he's encouraging, with $45,000 in cash prizes, the very things that made him famous in the first place: remixes.

Jesus on MySpace!

If anyone asks about the copyrights, tell them the Lord has need of it.

I just got a MySpace friend request from Jesus!

No, it's not another parody of the oft-misinterpreted philosopher. Apparently, a place called Yellow Brick Road Ministries is taking their religious evangelism to social media.

Asia, Sheree, and now Jesus. More reasons for five million mostly Catholic Filipinos to convert from Friendster to MySpace. Wonder when Muhammad and Ghandi will send me friend requests.

The Development of Yuki Nagato

How do you further ensure your show gets viral love from developers? Feature a developer character, and take her over the top!

Yuki Nagato is the ultimate developer. The universe is her platform; atoms are just bits to her. Think Neo's little sister, except she hacks the real world instead of just the Matrix. Her "magic words" are sped-up reversed SQL statements. Check out this parody video of Yuki supercharging her own character in 2D fighting game engine M.U.G.E.N.

Sheree Dances

Last month, I featured sultry Filipina singer Sheree at Asian Sirens. Turns out she's a pretty hot dancer, too.

Cosplay at MBK Center

MBK Cosplay

Check out the Thai cosplayers at MBK Center's Japanese Culture Day.

Megamall should have this. Filipino cosplayers would love it.

GTA Vice City Stories Trailer

Will Wright says player stories will always be more powerful than scripted stories. The popularity of The Sims, Leeroy Jenkins, and machinima all prove this.

Then again, scripted stories flatten the learning curve for creating player stories. Grand Theft Auto San Andreas proves that compelling scripted stories and complex player sandboxes are not mutually exclusive.

Seems Rockstar will continue to combine the two with Grand Theft Auto Vice City Stories. The trailer really packs a Hollywood-style emotional punch.

Steve Irwin, 1962-2006

I guess it would take a bull ray barb to the heart to kill this guy. Anything less would've just made him go "Crikey!"

Thanks for making my high school field biology shenanigans look tame, Steve. Your life will serve as inspiration to all who seek risk to spread knowledge.

Search for the RAN Girl

Five Filipina gamer babes vie to become the Philippines' RAN Girl. Check out their interviews in this month's FHM Philippines, and cast your vote here.

Faye gets my vote. Nothing says warrior babe like a tall girl with big eyes, full lips, and high cheekbones who likes RAN because "the girl characters are so confident." Good to see Philippine game publishers starting to tap the potential of gamer babes.

Next month: the finalists for the Tantra Maiden Search. Once Twinkle selects a Philippine publisher, we'll even see Filipina Twinkle girls.

The Prophecy of Haruhi Suzumiya

Among all the delightfully clever bits of trivia hidden in the virally smart anime The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, this bit is the most prescient. One of the characters mentions an explosion of data centered on Haruhi three years before the events of the series. Dates mentioned in the series imply it takes place in 2009. The explosion of Haruhi memes on the Web -- an explosion of data centered on Haruhi -- occurs in 2006, three years before the events of the series.

This anime is not only purpose-designed for viral marketing. Its script predicts viral marketing.

A bunch of other guys said nice things about this book, but I don't want this post to get too long.

e-Business Made Easy: The Philippine Internet Commerce Society's Official Internet Roadmap for Small and Medium Enterprises by Joey G. Alarilla. Coming September 25.

We wanted to call it e-Business for Dummies, but that would've been confusing.

Sexy Filipinas Shift Focus from Friendster to MySpace

Remember when I said five million Filipinos should shift from Friendster to MySpace?

Compare Asia's and Sheree's updated MySpace photos to their outdated Friendster photos. ;)
