Steve Rubel Rocketboomed

Steve Rubel coined the phrase the Mike Abundo effect, so of course I thoroughly enjoyed his video interview on Rocketboom. Watch it all the way to the end for a surprise.

The Long Tail by Chris Anderson

Read this brilliant and timely book if you want to get a look at the future of business. -- Dr. Eric Schmidt, Chairman and CEO, Google.

I sometimes discuss the Long Tail in my speeches (thank you Sacha). That's why I'm delighted my sister Michelle got me Chris Anderson's new book The Long Tail for my birthday.

Any business book that mentions anime fansubs by page three has got to rock. I am going to read the tail off this one.

Speaking of anime, the theme song for my birthday this year is Aya Hirano's Bouken Desho Desho?, from the virally smart anime The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. Choice lyric: Doing what everyone else does is no fun. Only do the things you can truly experience.

Flash 10th

I started rather late with Flash. My first paid Flash gig was Summit Media's first Flash screensaver way back in 2000. Today, Michael Arrington predicts that Web 2.0 will see Flash and Ajax go head-to-head (e.g., Wablet and Meebo). I've seen so many Web technologies fall into irrelevance over the years (Remember VRML?), but Flash just stands the test of time. There's just so much elegance to something that works on vectors -- connecting the dots.

Happy tenth anniversary, Flash.

Apple Sends Arrington a Nastygram

In protest of Apple's stupid nastygram to Michael Arrington, I'm reposting the video that so offended them.

Three New Twinkle Girls Selected

Remember when I said Japanese game publisher GaiaX gets the potential of gamer babes? They followed through on that yesterday with the selection of three new Twinkle girls after a series of auditions in Akihabara.

Get ready, Filipina cosplayers: GaiaX plans to replicate the Twinkle girl program when they launch the game in the Philippines.

Dvorak on How to Kill MS Office

The other day, I blogged why the coming Google Office is good for the Philippines.

John C. Dvorak proposes that to kill Microsoft Office, you need to kill Microsoft Word.
If a new word processor comes along with better menus (not worse menus dreamed up by Unix people!), stunning auto-spell-checking, real grammar analysis, and a markup system that works and is compatible with Word, then you'll have a Word killer.
Writely's cool, but it ain't quite there -- yet.

Second Life Red Light Roundup

Check out this roundup of ten adult entertainment establishments in Second Life.

It would be interesting to see people build such establishments in There Philippines. Hey, KTVPhil, here's your chance to enter the exciting world of gamevertising.

God Hand: Hardcore Hilarity for the PS2

As always, the Japanese whip up kooky game design magic. What do you get when you combine the director of Resident Evil 4 with the producer of Phoenix Wright?

You get the upcoming action-comedy God Hand. If this trailer is any indication, it's gonna be hardcore and hilarious all at once. Where else can you spank leather vixens into oblivion with the almighty hand of god? Picture that as a cosplay skit. Despite my preference for PC gaming, I am so gonna play this on my PS2.

Isamu Itsuki: Housewife-Cosplayer

Here's more proof that cosplay is not just child's play.

Meet Isamu Itsuki: mother, housewife and hardcore cosplayer.

Petition for PayPal for the Philippines

E-commerce in the Philippines is severely hampered by lack of PayPal support. Yes, a country that makes Web 2.0 startups can't get something basic from way back in Web 1.0.

Considering that eBay owns PayPal, eBay Philippines without PayPal is just stupid. I am now signatory #281 on a petition for PayPal for the Philippines. Sign now!
