Freudian slip?

Trademarks and Prosumers

Concurrent with the Web 2.0 trademark controversy in the US, we have the cosplay trademark controversy in Singapore.

Trademarks don't fit very well in innovative prosumer environments, do they?

Ask a Ninja Ninja Opens Online Shop

Now we know why the Ask a Ninja ninja took two weeks to release his latest video. He was busy developing his Ninja Mart Store.

Photobucket Gets $10.5M Funding

A lot of Pinoy Cosplay users like Photobucket, so they should be happy to hear this: profitable Photobucket closes $10.5M more in funding.

And to think Flickr, a Yahoo company, isn't profitable yet. In a world where users have many social networking and content management choices, Photobucket's combination of easy embedding, multimedia hosting, and an affordable freemium model make a killer triple combo.

Makes me wonder how CNet's disruptively focused AllYouCanUpload will fare. The new service eschews all content management and social networking features in favor of free unlimited bandwidth.

Smart's Deceptive SMS Spam

I knew local SMS spam was coming. I didn't know the Philippines' top cellco would get so deceptive about it.

Philippine Idol Hopefuls Stood Up

I feel sorry for the more than 200 people who got stood up yesterday for the cancelled Philippine Idol auditions.

Those hopefuls should listen to Filipino cosplayer Nilopie: "I-YouTube n'yo na lang 'yan!" ("Just put it on YouTube already!"). Remember that YouTube is huge in the Philippines. The mainstream media is no longer the gatekeeper of fame.
