Commissioner Dondi Mapa resigns from the Philippines' Commission on Information and Communications Technology.
I podcast a chat with him last year (MP3). Frankly, a government clueless enough to harass bloggers and mock gamers does not deserve a man of Dondi's talent.

Vatican Astronomer: Creationism is Paganism
The Scotsman: Believing that God created the universe in six days is a form of superstitious paganism, the Vatican astronomer Guy Consolmagno claimed yesterday.

Xfire Feature Wish List
Xfire's recent $102M acquisition by Viacom got me thinking of the three features I most want to see in Xfire:
1) Wider game support;
2) Chat support above forced fullscreens (more of a business issue presented by paranoid game devs); and
3) Cross-platform support.
PC, PS3, PSP, Xbox 360, Wii, DS, Windows Mobile, Symbian, Palm -- I want to see all gaming across all platforms on one Xfire account.
Think only PCs have the flexibility to preload resident apps beneath games? Think again. Gameshark preloads beneath my PS2 games. I hear the Xfire guys are already working on something for the PS3.
My previous advice to Philippine game publishers stands. If you're going to publish a localized version of an Xfire-supported game, make sure the installation directory and primary executable filename match those of the international version. These simple considerations will ensure seamless compatibility with Xfire.
Don't be afraid Xfire will kill your ability to bullshit. You simply can't afford not to be on what some call "the next MySpace".

Level Up Adds Self to Game Dev Map
Gotta hand it to Level Up: they read blogs.
Two days after I suggest they put themselves on gamedevmap, they do.
Mobius still got there first, though. Wonder how long 'til other Philippine online game publishers get on it.
Bonus link: MMOGs in development before E3 2006.

Bill: MS will Keep Google Honest

I'm suddenly nostalgic for the good old days. You know, when Bill Gates was the evil one.
Bill says Microsoft will keep Google honest.
Cartoon Network Philippines Taps Cosplayers
Good to see Cartoon Network Philippines eschew traditional fan-disengaged models in favor of credible consumer evangelist cosplayers.

Filipina cosplayer Nejin is tapped to portray the Yellow Dino Ranger at mall tours.

Sphere Launches
Just tried blog search engine Sphere, launched yesterday, and found one post about me I didn't find anywhere else.

Impressive.
Seems FeedBurner had advance knowledge of Sphere. They've been offering a "Related posts from Sphere" FeedFlare for a while now.

Game Dev Map
Hey, Philippine game developers and Philippine online game publishers, put yourselves on this game dev map.

The thing could use improvement -- submission is via email -- but it's a start. Anino, IGDA Manila, and Mobius are already there.

Future of Gaming: User-Created Content?
Mike Sellers asks what's next for virtual worlds. The comments have turned towards a debate on the potential of user-created content in games.
Sims creator Will Wright's using a lot of it in his next game. What do you think?
