Google Buys Writely

Google buys web-based word processor Writely.

They've suspended signups for now. Good thing I listened to Steve Rubel and signed up early.

Google Office is near.

Marikit's Featured Cosplayers

Filipina gamer-cosplayer-blogger Marikit, who joined PinoyCosplay.com recently, is running a monthly feature on popular cosplayers.

Anyone who's interested in this emerging artform -- a potent form of youth media prosumer evangelism -- should definitely check it out.

101 Free Games

1Up collects 101 great new free games available on the Web.

Some of them are just free mods of paid games, but they're still good. It's not all casual stuff either: I've started playing Anarchy Online.

When's Your Torrent Tracker Going Up, Level Up?

Xfire now supports RF Online (with ingame group VoIP!), so I decided to whip out my installer CDs and put in a few hours.

Suddenly, I'm reminded why I loathe Level Up CD installations.

Ben, those CD's cost you a small fortune. You've found innovative ways to distribute them -- some of which are so cool, I'm not sure I should blog them.

They're still impossible for my squeaky-clean brand-name DVD super multirecorder to read.

Your torrents page has been up for a while (good idea BTW, Abet); Filipino Internet café owners can easily be taught how to use it. When's your torrent tracker going up?

M$ Redesigns iPod Package!

This video perfectly illustrates the problems inherent in design-by-committee.

GDrive Leaked

The nice thing about making a product hackable, is getting new product ideas.

I've been using GmailFS for a while now, so I'm glad to hear about GDrive.

How Social Software Beats Slideware

Here's a great essay on how social software beats slideware in software companies.
Corporate development organizations are taking the "presentation", which might work for sales pitches and conference talks (and is based on a method that worked for briefing bomber pilots), and, by emailing versions of the damn thing back and forth, turning it into a tool for interfering with management understanding of complicated things.
As the following slide shows, PowerPoint is evil.

The Wal-Mart Blogger Controversy

Barely two weeks into his new SVP role at Edelman, Steve Rubel faces a PR blogging challenge: the Wal-Mart blogger controversy.

Here's what Steve and his boss have to say about it.

Here's what I don't get. If most of Wal-Mart's PR woes come from the public's perception of its working conditions, why didn't they directly address that perception by having the workers blog? Why did they rely on external bloggers to talk about peripheral issues?

RSS Full Monty!

Anyone who's seen this knows why.

Fortunately for you, my RSS feed gives you the full monty, baby. ;)

No Origamisms

Blogosphere: Origami sucks.

And to think the thing's not even available yet. There's advance market intelligence for ya.

Save your marketing dollars for a version that really meets your vision, Bill. Even Scoble admits it won't kill anything.

PLDT Loses Silly Anti-VoIP Case

Businessworld reports that PLDT lost its Supreme Court case where it tried to float the idea that so-called "International Simple Resale" (ISR) constituted the crime of "theft" of telephone calls and/or PLDT's business.

This is a significant blow to PLDT's efforts to stop third parties from routing calls over the Internet into its local exchanges.
Hey, PLDT: nyahnyahnyahnyahnyah!

Beastie Boys Invite Fan Remixes

Now here's a bunch of guys who get participative media and empowered prosumers.

The Beastie Boys offer a capella tracks free for your remixing pleasure.

Now that's fighting for your right to party.

Qualifications of a Blogger

It also requires communication skills and an open mind, which leaves out even more people.

Philippine Online Game & SNS Lists

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: JC Cuneta is a Philippine gaming guru.

He's just come out with updated lsts of Philippine online persistent worlds, competitive games, social networking services, and casual games.

And yes, he even counted the one that died.

Seth Godin Speaks at Google

I've cited marketing guru Seth Godin in my speaking engagements, so I was delighted to see his recent presentation at Google.

Venture capitalist Rick Segal thinks the video should be required viewing at his former company Microsoft.

Hugh Mcleod is more extreme: "Tell all your employees to watch the video. If anybody doesn't get it, fire them."

Origami Video

I don't know how much truth is in this Origami video...

...but it's sure got me curious.
