The Kryptonite scandal demonstrated the power of the American Netizen to expose corporate misdeeds.
The Filipino Netizen is beginning to exhibit that power. Renowned artist Gerry Alanguilan exposes possible plagiarism in the designs of local clothing line Bayo. The story is now spreading across Filipino blogs and forums, with additional incidents of Bayo's possible plagiarism coming to light.
For a company whose t-shirts claim to celebrate the "young talented Filipina", such plagiarism shows neither innovation nor talent. How this story snowballs -- and how Bayo catches the snowball -- will test the power of the Filipino Netizen.
This could well be our Kryptonite.

We Got Game
The recently concluded U Got Game Pro game development competition gave local game developers a chance to strut their stuff. I'll be trying out the winning games in the coming days; watch this space for reviews.
Also on my playlist is the Filipino-developed 3D cel-shaded fighting game released as an open beta at the event, Away Agila. The only good 3D cel-shaded fighting games I've played are from the Dragonball Z Budokai series; as I mentioned to Away Agila creator Ranulf Goss earlier this year, I'd like to see a Filipino change that.
My recent podcast on gaming predicted Filipinos embracing MMOG genres aside from medieval fantasies. That prediction will soon be tested, as Level-Up Games announced the September Philippine open beta of the science-fantasy MMOG Rising Force Online.
As in last year's event, cosplayers portraying game characters brought the technology closer to the youth.
Ranulf surprised the audience with guest Nobuhiro Fujii, programmer of Final Fantasy IX, who's put up his own game development company in the Philippines. Fujii-san surprised me further by introducing me to his all-Filipino team. Let's hope more international game development luminaries learn the benefits of leveraging Filipino creativity.

The Truth About the Filipina
Filipina blogger Clair Ching laments that the online image of the Filipina has been reduced to that of a mail-order bride.
I will not tolerate this information injustice. My mother is a Filipina. My sister is a Filipina. My girlfriend is a Filipina.
I call on all Filipino bloggers to post links to sites that properly portray the Filipina. Doing so will raise the search engine rankings of such sites, uplifting the online image of the Filipina.
Filipinas are our mothers, sisters, friends, lovers. In this Participation Age, there is no excuse for leaving their global reputation to decay.
Blog those links.
